Ultralife to Showcase New Products at Special Operations Forces Industry ConferenceNEWARK, N.Y., May 17, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Ultralife Corporation (Nasdaq:ULBI) announced today that it will showcase a full array of energy storage and communication systems new product platforms at the Special Operations Forces Industry Conference (SOFIC) in Tampa, Florida on May 22nd to May 24th. The company will display its new products at Booth #1012.

"Developing exciting, new, high value proposition products is a very important part of our growth strategy. The critical components of these new products are internally designed and manufactured, and provide ideal platforms to meaningfully broaden our participation in global defense and commercial markets," said Michael D. Popielec, Ultralife's president and chief executive officer. "We're looking forward to unveiling our latest additions at the SOFIC show. Based on our direct engagement with key customers and our extensive knowledge of power and communications requirements, all of these products are directly relevant to customer requirements, cost effective, and improvements to existing operational capability."

Battery & Energy Products Segment

Genset Eliminator™ - The GenSet Eliminator™ is a patent pending, innovative storage and power system designed to reduce fuel consumption and maintenance costs by 25% to 30% for defense and commercial applications. It provides energy storage capabilities to generators and renewable energy sources, thereby promoting optimum efficiencies through the continuous charging and discharging of Ultralife's MKM™ batteries incorporated into the system. The system is mobile, flexible and scalable from 10 to 50 kWh of battery storage and will significantly reduce fuel consumption while enabling the primary generator or power source to be operated at 85% to 95% of its rated load capacity. The switch between the primary energy source and battery power is seamless to the user and allows for silent and clean (zero emission) operation when the batteries are in use. The MKM™ batteries allow for continuous monitoring, reduce battery weight by a factor of four to five if comparable lead acid batteries are used, and allow much higher operating temperatures of up to 140°F (60°C) without performance degradation. The resulting benefits of lower fuel consumption, extended life expectancy, less maintenance to the primary power source and silent watch capability make the GenSet Eliminator™ ideal for military bases and commercial operations that generate their own electricity.

Multi-Kilowatt Module (MKM™) - The MKM™ product line is a series of large format Lithium Ion rechargeable battery systems designed for energy storage and back-up and remote power across a broad range of commercial and military applications.    The MKM™ units can be connected in multiples to obtain higher voltages and fulfill a wide range of system requirements. The MKM™ battery management system incorporates Ultralife's SmartCircuit® technology, providing safe, long-term operation, and allows for charging using either AC power or alternative energy sources such as solar. The long cycle life of Ultralife's Lithium Ion battery systems makes the MKM™ product line an ideal choice for commercial applications such as bulk energy storage, uninterruptible power supply devices, medical equipment and motive power, in addition to a multitude of government and defense applications that demand long-lasting, smaller and lighter-weight power solutions.

Man-Portable Power System (MPPS) - The MPPS combines portability and MKM™ power into a modular and flexible energy system ideally suited for remote locations where transport could be difficult. Consisting of Ultralife's batteries of highest energy density for maximum power, Ultralife SmartCircuit® technology, connection cables and ruggedized casing, the MPPS is designed to be integrated with any solar array for power and offers Ethernet communications capability.

Half-Size 5390 - The new half-size 5390 product directly addresses the military's stated need for lighter, higher density mobile energy solutions for our soldiers. Specifically, it delivers similar power as the currently used products yet with one half the size and weight, which will provide the soldier the flexibility of a lighter, smaller battery for shorter missions or twice the energy in the same size and weight as the existing battery for longer missions. The product line also includes a half-size 2590 rechargeable battery pack and a new thin to body conformal battery creating additional lightweight options for today's soldier.

Communications Systems Segment

Lightweight Portable Amplification System (LPAS) - The LPAS will support sixteen different radio configurations, replacing a product that supported only one configuration. The system utilizes the AMTI 20 watt amplifier and an integrated rechargeable power supply which allows for either dismounted or vehicle operations using AC/DC or battery power. This configuration provides the customer with maximum flexibility in operational usage with mixed fielding of radios and also enhances transition when upgrading to newer radio platforms.

Handheld Vehicle Adapter (HVA) - The HVA provides the ultimate solution for either commercial or military vehicle communications. It supports "jerk and run" communications and enables the operator to use the same radio both in the vehicle and during dismounted operations. Since capable of using several different voltages, this product can be used in commercial or military vehicles, while supporting over sixteen different radio configurations.

Satellite Radio Combiner - The Satellite Radio Combiner addresses the known challenge arising from limitations on the number of antennas available on aircraft, vehicles and maritime craft. This product enables simultaneous transmission and reception of any two military UHF satellite radio channels. Designed for continuous operations and weighing less than 17 pounds, it provides significant operational capability at very low weight and power consumption which supports the military's focus on improvements in size, weight, cost and power.

20 Watt Amplifiers - The wide array of Ultralife's proven 20W amplifiers supporting the latest waveforms and handheld radios will also be showcased. Currently, five variants of the popular A-320V1 amplifier are available to support the most widely fielded radios globally. As waveforms and handheld radios have emerged to support high data rate communications and ad-hoc networks, the company has maintained its market leadership by developing cutting edge amplifiers to support range extension on the dismounted soldier.
